Aerosmith took the stage last night (January 26th) at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. The band opened the two-song set with 1993's “Livin' On The Edge” during which Steven Tyler called on Grammy Award-winning Lizzo for some backing vocals — before declaring “Lizzo, I f***in' love you!” Run D.M.C. joined the group for a revival of their joint 1986 crossover remake of “Walk This Way.”
Friday night (January 24th) saw the band honored as the 2020 “MusiCares Person of The Year.” Proceeds from the annual benefit gala will provide essential support for MusiCares, “which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.”
Although, as expected, drummer Joey Kramer did not perform with the band, the event was drama-free, with a clearly emotional Kramer appearing with the group to accept the award and address the crowd. At one point, as Steven Tyler read his prepared statement, he physically pulled a tearful Kramer close to him.
The 2020 MusiCares performances saluting Aerosmith were:
Cheap Trick – “Rats In The Cellar”
Jonas Brothers – “Crazy”
Emily King & Luis Fonsi – “Angel”
Kesha – “Janie's Got A Gun”
John Legend – “I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing”
Jessie J – “Home Tonight”
Melissa Etheridge & Nuno Bettencourt – “Walk This Way”
Sammy Hagar & Orianthi – “Back In The Saddle”
Foo Fighters – “Let The Music Do The Talking” and “Toys In The Attic”
Aerosmith – “Big Ten Inch Record,” “Dream On” with H.E.R., “Sweet Emotion,” and “Same Old Song And Dance” with Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp.
