The Strokes have signed on to perform at an upcoming rally for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. The New York band will perform at the Get Out the Vote Concert Rally on February 10th in Durham, New Hampshire.
Singer Julian Casablancas said in a statement, “We are honored to be associated with such a dedicated, diligent and trustworthy patriot and fellow native New Yorker. As the only truly non-corporate candidate, Bernie Sanders represents our only chance to overthrow corporate power and help return America to democracy. This is why we support him.”
Although Sanders moved to Vermont in 1968 and has spent his entire political career there, he was actually born in Brooklyn, New York in 1941.
The Strokes join a long line of other musicians who have publicly endorsed Sanders, including Vampire Weekend, Jack White, Killer Mike and Cardi B. The Red Hot Chili Peppers played at rallies for the senator during his previous presidential campaign in 2016.
The Strokes also recently announced a handful of North American shows and are expected to release a new album later this year.
