50 Cent has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — seventeen years after the release of his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Eminem and Dr. Dre attended the ceremony, which took place yesterday on the intersection of Hollywood and Vine.
According to Rap-Up, Eminem had a few words to say about his friend 50. He said, “I’m here today because this is not only a business partner to me, it’s one of the best friends I’ve ever known in the world and I would say it’s much more fun to be his friend than it is to be his enemy, ’cause this guy is f*cking relentless. And he won’t stop. . . . He's also relentless in his business. He's an artist, and entreprenuer, an actor, a director, a producer, he can juggle, he’s great at Scrabble. He pretty much does it all. And he’s also helped me through a lot of hard times in my own life and he’s always been there when I need him, so 50 congrats on your star, man. Hollywood is making it official what I knew from the beginning and Dre knew from the beginning.”
50 took the podium and said that he appreciated getting the star because he didn't get a lot of awards as a rapper. He said, “It's funny, cuz I told Em I felt like this was a lifetime achievement award for me and it’s because I didn’t receive a lot of awards according to the success of the music. I had the largest debut hip hop album . . . and you ain't got no best new artist trophy. And they gave that sh*t to Ervanescence Evanescence. Can you find f*ckin’ Ervanescence? . . . Is that Bishop Magic Don Juan? What's up Pimpin? How the f*ck they never take him to jail. Dre? You know the muthaf*cker pimpin! I'm just playing.”
He also had an emotional moment when he discussed a conversation he had with Mary J. Blige when she called to congratulate him on getting a star on the walk of fame. He said, “This is a different experience. I’ve been at awards shows and when you win at the awards shows, there’s some people there that feel like they should have won. This one is different because everybody’s in the same space. Everybody feels the same way about it. I just want to say thank you, man, thanks for supporting me.”
50 also apologized to former Interscope head Jimmy Iovine, saying, “I’ve said things about Jimmy that I didn’t mean. I was wrong for not inviting him and having him here today. He’s a big part of the success that I’ve had.”
