Marilyn Manson is asking fans to donate to a GoFundMe campaign set up for his touring bassist, Juan Alderete, who suffered serious head trauma and other grave injuries in a bicycle accident last month.
Manson posted a link to the GoFundMe page on his Instagram account, writing, “My friend and band mate, Juan, needs our help. And our energy. Please give whenever you can. Thank you.” The goal for the campaign is $250,000, with the money going toward physical, occupational and cognitive therapies, in-patient care and therapy, special medical equipment and other expenses.
Alderete was injured near his home on January 13th. Alderete’s wife Anne took to social media to update fans, sharing the accident wasn’t caused by other cars or people. She shared that her husband had suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) known as Diffuse Axonal Injury, and he and had fallen into a coma.
Alderete was previously the bassist in Racer X and the Grammy-winning band The Mars Volta, which he joined in 2003 and stayed with until they disbanded in 2012. In November 2017, Alderete filled in for Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez at the Ozzfest Meets Knotfest festival, and has been Manson's bass player on tour since.
