Photos have surfaced of what appears to be the unmasked “Tortilla Man,” the percussionist and newest member of Slipknot whose identity has still not been revealed by the rest of the nine-piece band.
Three members of the band recently visited Postojna Cave, the most extensive cave system in Slovenia, while on tour. Two of the members — percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan and drummer Jay Weinberg — were easily identifiable in the pictures.
The third member, however, was not, although the latest photos, which were posted to the Postojna Cave Facebook account, support the theory that “Tortilla Man” is the multi-instrumentalist Michael Pfaff. Pfaff played keyboards with Crahan in the band Dirty Little Rabbits and is also a member of the Iowa-based duo The Snacks.
Included in the image gallery is a picture of the page in the Postojna Cave visitors' book signed by the three members of Slipknot, with the middle signature appearing to contain the word “Pfaff.”
Guitarist Jim Root told us that sharing the guy's name is just not a priority: “We just don't think about it. It's not important, you know what I mean, to us. We're focusing on the shows. They may be right and they may be wrong on who this guy is, and if people really want to know who the new guy is, they'll dig and maybe someday they'll find out.”
“Tortilla Man” joined Slipknot nine months ago, when he was first featured in the video for comeback single “Unsainted.” Since then, there has been much speculation about his identity. Slipknot's previous percussionist, Chris Fehn, sued the band last March and was officially dismissed from the group last year.
