Green Day releases its 13th studio album on Friday (February 7th), titled Father Of All Motherf**kcers. The 26-minute, 10-song album is the shortest in the band's history, with the band returning to a stripped-down, more punk approach while exploring different genres of rock.
Drummer Tre Cool told Spin about the disc, “When we started recording this record, we were fired up about music and charged up and listening to music and playing music. It was a good time to go in the creative process. The final result is a good feeling and we’re successful with it, we made the record we want to make.”
The album scored a 68 on Metacritic, based off a dozen reviews so far. Kerrang! called it a “hella mega good time from start to finish,” while Consequence Of Sound described its walk through rock history as “a nod to the greats that came before them.”
Classic Rock gave the LP its highest score, a 90, saying, “It's refreshing, comforting even, to have Green Day back in their exuberant element, unburdened by message or morality.” Entertainment Weekly, however, only awarded it a 42, calling the LP a “derivative party foul, a spirited genre game that plays like a copy of a copy.”
Green Day will hit the road this summer with Weezer and Fall Out Boy on the Hella Mega Tour.
