In an interview posted on Ultimate Guitar.com, singer/bassist Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 talked about why the band’s recent album is so dark. He said, “I think the world is in a strange place right now and it kind of bled into our music and it bled into our lives. I feel like people in general, are a little on edge and I think that the whole world is kind of on edge right now. That’s it, that’s really what it is.”
Despite the depressing lyrics of “Darkside,” the video is visually positive and upbeat. The idea came from drummer Travis Bark, who said, “I just had sort of a vision of what it would look like. And a good friend of mine named Andrew Sandler, who did the ‘I’m Okay’ video’ for me, he did the ‘Darkside’ video and killed it.”
The album, Nine, was released in September of last year and is their eighth full-length studio recording.
