Courtney Love commemorated the 28th anniversary of her marriage to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain with an emotional tribute post to her husband on Instagram.
The couple were married on February 24th, 1992 at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. On Monday, Love posted a photo from their wedding and wrote, “I recall feeling, deeply, delighted, dizzy, so in love, and knowing how lucky I was.”
She continued, “This man was an angel. I thank him for looking out for me, many parts of the last 28 years have been torturous, chaotic and uphill, and in public. That is the darkest s**t imaginable, it almost tapped my resilience, almost.”
Love added, “But between Kurt’s strange amazing divinity, and the honor of a few true friends, the gift of desperation and sobriety, of a Higher power and of love, and of empathy, I’m here now. It’ll be ok, f**k, I see him on the shore. Rocking in the free world. My husband.”
Kurt Cobain biographer Charles R. Cross told us a while back that Kurt and Courtney's relationship was a complex one: “I think one of the difficulties is that they had a very — you know, they had a marriage that sometimes was good for each of them and many times was bad for each of them. But Kurt picked Courtney, and she picked him, and he clearly loved her from things that I read in the diary. But was she good for him? I think the answer is sometimes she was and sometimes she wasn't.”
Love said at the NME Awards earlier this month in London that she had been clean and sober for 18 months.
