Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler will be honored at the eighth annual Adopt The Arts benefit concert, to be held on Tuesday, May 12th at the Avalon in Hollywood.
According to a press release, Smith and Butler — along with visual artist Shepard Fairey — will be honored for their “meaningful impact on our culture through their music and art.”
The benefit itself aims to raise awareness and funds for Adopt The Arts, whose mission is to fund music and art education across the country and build partnerships to ensure that all students have access to a well-rounded education.
Smith has lobbied Congress for music education funding in schools and has said he owes his life and career to it. He told us a while back that he never imagined that career would go as far as it has: “Never in my wildest dreams if you had come up to me and said, 'Hey, you know, you're gonna move to California and join the Chili Peppers and then 25 years later you're gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and you're gonna sell millions of records and travel all over the world and blah blah blah blah blah…' I'd have just said, 'You are hiiiiiigh.' I can't really comprehend it too much.”
Appearing and performing at the benefit will be Adopt The Arts co-founder and former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, Guns members Slash and Duff McKagan, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, The Cult guitarist Billy Duffy, Rob Zombie axeman John 5 and others, with more to be announced.
