Ozzy Osbourne has told Good Morning Britain in a new interview that he “absolutely” intends to play live again despite the recent health struggles that forced him off the road for all of 2019 and seem likely to do the same for much if not all of this year.
Speaking about how soon he hopes to get back to the road, Ozzy replied, “My desire is to get back on stage. I’m not ready to hang up my mic yet — that’s what I live for. I exercise as much as I can: I have a trainer, I do pilates. But the best medication I can get is being in front of an audience, which is breaking my heart.”
The legendary singer continued, “I will be up there. I have to say that because now you’re going to say, ‘What will you do if you can’t do it again?’ That’s not an option. That’s the only thing I’ve ever done in my life. That’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do and that’s the only thing I’ve felt confident about.”
When asked directly if he will get back onstage again, Ozzy answered, “I will. Absolutely. I have to say that.”
Ozzy told us a while back what motivates him to keep performing live: “I was watching 60 Minutes and there was a segment on Bruce Springsteen where they asked him the same question, and he said, 'You know what? It's fun. It's what I like doing. I like making them have fun and I like having fun for me by seeing them have fun.' And it's pretty true, you know. It's because I just love to see the kids. It's like a challenge for me.”
The Black Sabbath singer has added one more cancellation to his schedule as well: on Thursday (March 5th), he joined a growing list of artists and companies that have pulled out of next week's South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas due to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Ozzy was scheduled to attend the festival in support of the world premiere screening of Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne, a two-hour A&E documentary special exploring his life and career.
