Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell has apparently returned to the studio to continue working on a new solo album. The upcoming LP will be his third solo effort and his first since 2002's Degradation Trip, an ambitious double set that he recorded with future Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo and Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin.
On Tuesday night (March 10th), Cantrell posted an Instagram photo of several guitar racks at the Dave's Room recording studio in North Hollywood, California. He included the message, “It's time to make the Raawwwkkk!!!”
Cantrell confirmed in January that he was working on a new solo album, saying in a new interview with People TV, “I'm working on a new record myself . . . If you liked any of the solo work that I did or the work with Alice, I'm sure you might like some of this stuff too.”
Although he's worked as a solo artist in the past, Cantrell told us a while back that there's something magical about being in a band: “There's a certain, certain chemistry that you really can't put your finger on, but when you put the certain ingredients in a bowl and mix it up, you know, and light the fuse, it's so much more powerful than the individual parts that make up the whole.”
Cantrell did a pair of shows last December at the Pico Union Project in Los Angeles where he played material from Degradation Trip and his first solo LP, 1998's Boggy Depot. Alice In Chains has finished touring behind its latest album, Rainier Fog.
