Tool drummer Danny Carey revealed on Thursday (April 16th) that he hopes to get together soon with guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor to begin working on music for a new EP.
Carey sprang the news during a bass and drum webinar on Thursday that was presented by the Berklee School of Music, which also featured Chancellor plus members of Korn and other acts.
When asked about current projects, Carey remarked, “I’m hoping, during this downtime, as soon as we’re able, maybe we’ll get together — Justin and I, and Adam — maybe start hashing out some new Tool stuff in the meantime, maybe write another EP since we’re down and we can’t do anything else.”
It took 13 years for Tool to complete and release its latest album, 2019’s Fear Inoculum, so a relatively quick turnaround on new music would certainly stun the band’s devoted followers.
Carey hinted last September that the band had “tons of material” left over from the Fear Inoculum sessions, and Jones told us not long ago that boiling that material down into songs was the trick: “We've got lots of material. Our strongest thing is jamming. But grouping stuff together — and that's kind of how we work, you know, we jam and then you kind of go, 'Wow, this works with this really well' — and then you jam those two things and see if you can get 'em to work.”
Tool was set to embark on an extensive spring tour in support of Fear Inoculum, but have postponed the entire outing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
