My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way has shared two more previously unreleased tracks, called “PS Earth” and “Crate Amp_01.” The latter is raw and incomplete, and is the precursor to “Crate Amp_2” which arrived a few weeks earlier on a digital EP of four previously unheard cuts called Distraction Or Disrepair.
Way wrote at the time, “Hey all, with all this uncertainty I just wanted to start uploading some unreleased stuff. Just so people can check it out and have something to listen to. Just felt like sharing. I think I have a bunch of this stuff (of which) I have been recording little bits here and there over the years.”
Way, who was an artist and animator before starting My Chemical Romance, told us a while back that his previous career has influenced his music: “All of my background from before the band has to do with the way we kind of attack it today. You know, the art background being like to me one of the most important things, and the fact that I was a storyteller before I was a singer, it just meant I was gonna tell more stories. And the fact that the aesthetic is just as important sometimes as the music, that all comes from that place.”
Both of the newly released tracks are from the sessions for Way's 2014 solo album, Hesitant Alien. In conjunction with the release, Way has asked fans to contribute to the COVID-19 Response Fund.
