Muse releases four songs on Thursday (April 30th) from the encore of the band's legendary Tokyo Zepp concert on August 13th, 2013. The tracks are “Panic Station,” “Supermassive Black Hole,” “Can't Take My Eyes Off You” and “Starlight.”
A special one-off show staged in the relatively small venue Zepp, the set featured a number of rare cuts as well the live premieres of several songs.
For the second encore, the band dressed in their “Panic Station” video costumes and were surrounded by dancers and members of the crew, also in random costumes.
A smaller show like this has become a rare occurrence for Muse in the past decade. Bassist Chris Wolstenholme told us that Muse is all about making its live show as big as possible: “You know, I've always felt from past experiences of going to watch bands that, you know, the bigger the venues you go to, it needs to become a different experience because you lose all the intimacy that you have when you play in a small venue, and you have to replace that with something else, you know. And I think you kind of replace with with electricity, you know what I mean? This kind of tension that you can create by using visuals and, you know, just having a stage set that people will walk away from and see when they close their eyes at bedtime, you know.”
The concert was also filmed for a planned documentary which has yet to materialize.
