Sting performs tonight (April 30th) as part of The National Air and Space Museum's grand finale of its “Space Songs” virtual concert. Sting.com posted, Space Songs: Through The Distance will premiere on YouTube at 8 pm EDT.
In addition to Sting, the full line-up includes Clipping, Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, Dan Deacon, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie, Valerie June, Lukas Nelson, Grace Potter, John Roderick, and Vagabon.
According to the announcement on Sting.com:
Join the National Air and Space Museum for a YouTube concert event, sharing songs about space and isolation to celebrate how extreme situations can bring out the very best in us all and why there’s no challenge we can’t face together.
We know that people love space. And it’s not just because of Moon rocks and pretty pictures of the cosmos. Space exploration is an extraordinary expression of humanity and can inspire us like nothing else.
Sting is one of those artists that despite the venue size — or type of performance — he's completely at ease. He told us that while performing he's always striving for his songs to sound better live than they do on the album: “I've never had an idea that I should be reproducing a record on stage, but something better. Something kind of deconstructed and then something different. So, it's intriguing. It's hard work trying sort of weaving the new material in with bits of the old material.”
