The four members of Metallica joined together online to record a new acoustic version of their 1988 song “Blackened,” with all four musicians performing separately in their homes. The split-screen video was posted to the band's social media channels on Friday (May 1st).
The was accompanied by a message from the group which read, “Here's a little something we cooked up over the last few days. Hope you’re all safe & sound. Have a great weekend.”
Drummer Lars Ulrich said in an interview last week that it was possible the band could get together to write and record a new album while in quarantine.
Frontman James Hetfield told us a while back that working on new music has always been a bonding experience for Metallica: “You sit there and you write something together and you go, 'Ah, we belong together. This is right. We can still create magic together.' So it's very bonding before we go out onto the stage, too.”
The band had to postpone a South American tour from April to December due to the pandemic, while four out of the five Danny Wimmer Presents-produced festivals it was supposed to headline in May and September were canceled.
