Tool guitarist Adam Jones has shared a “guitar tutorial” video for the song “Pneuma” from the band's 2019 Fear Inoculum album. The clip provides a look into his tuning and creative process.
The guitarist uploaded the video to his Instagram account with a message saying, “A little tutorial share. Dressing room guitar lesson of the last verse in 'Pneuma' . . . 440 D dropped on the Nomad. Justin (Chancellor, bass) stays on the original riff so there are some nice little conflicting moments between the two parts. Not difficult to play but it's very satisfying.”
Jones told us a while back that Tool's creative process is relatively simple: “We write this song, and then we write the next song — we don't really, like, you know, go, 'Okay, well, now we're gonna write the radio song,' or 'Now, we're gonna write this song.' You know, we just write and then put 'em in an order that we like after we've recorded them and then get a feeling from all the songs in the group and then try to attack the propaganda of selling the record.”
Both Justin Chancellor and Tool bassist Danny Carey recently participated in a webinar alongside other notable metal musicians in conjunction with Berklee College of Music.
Tool was set to embark on an extensive spring tour in support of Fear Inoculum, but postponed the outing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
