Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan's music collective Puscifer has just released a new single and video called “Apocalyptical,” which eerily taps into the current climate of fear, anxiety and rampant conspiracy theories surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
Keenan said in a message accompanying the clip, “Manipulated information disseminated by kings, queens, dictators, so called leaders, supposed professionals or outliers and conspiracy theorists living underground, or in basements, is not new or unique to this generation . . . this rapid distribution of poison and its immediate impact will be the hallmark of our generation.”
He added, “Even In light of all this, and all the noise the digital landscape generates, all I keep asking myself is 'what is it with the whole hoarding toilet paper thing?'”
Puscifer has existed since 1995 but only began making records in 2007. Keenan told us a while back that it was not just another band: “This is much more of just a collaborative, creative outlet on all levels with various people, free from label contracts and just kind of express to express, and not really worry about taking over the world with it.”
Puscifer's yet-to-be-titled fourth full-length studio album will arrive this fall. It will follow up 2015's Money Shot. Keenan's main act Tool released its first studio album in 13 years, Fear Inoculum, last August.
