Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa appear in a new movie my “The Boss'” old friend — and yet another early contender for the “New Dylan” crown — Elliott Murphy. The couple plays themselves in the new indie film, Broken Poet, which Murphy wrote with Emilio J. Ruiz handling directing duties. The movie's based around the fictional singer/songwriter Jake Lion, who's gone missing. The Asbury Park Press likened the movie to “Phantom Of The Opera meets Eddie And The Cruisers.”
Fans can download the film on Friday, May 15th via Backstreets.com, “where you'll also get a 'Backstreets Bonus Video' that includes an exclusive performance by Murphy playing the Broken Poet theme song, 'Drive All Night,' and a cover of Springsteen's 'Better Days.'' A portion of the proceeds from the Broken Poet download will benefit MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Bruce Springsteen has turned down — literally — dozens of acting offers. He finally relented in 2014 when he appeared on an episode of Steve Van Zandt's Netflix series, Lilyhammer. At the time, Van Zandt told us he was over the moon that Springsteen chose his show to making his acting debut on: “I was really honored that he chose me and trusted me to be the director of his first acting job. It happens to be the episode that I’m directing this year. And, y’know, everybody’s been after him to act, y’know, for 30 years, and he’s finally, he finally did it. And he’s just great — as you’ll see.”
