Godsmack frontman Sully Erna said in an interview with Philadelphia radio station WMMR that he does not see the coronavirus crisis as “the new norm.”
Erna explained, “This thing's gonna pass, just like everything else has passed in our past — like the flu and HIV and the swine flu and SARS and whatever else we've had. I just think it's gonna really be up to us to get our heads together here and be responsible and do the right thing.”
Erna added, “I'm not being disrespectful to people that are older and have illnesses — I know this is killing those kind of people and it's there and it's real. But at the same time, c'mon — we're not gonna be that kind of world that's gonna walk around with masks forever and not shake each other's hands and give each other a hug.”
The singer told us that two people very close to him are especially susceptible to the virus: “My bass player, Robbie (Merrill) has always had kind of problems with his breathing, so he's really like, 'I can't catch this thing, dude, this will wipe me out.' And my daughter is very asthmatic and she's had just breathing issues since she was born. She's broken through a lot of it, so she's not as bad as she used to be when she was younger, but she's still someone I think would be, you know, a higher risk, and I wouldn't want her to catch this thing.”
Godsmack recently notched its fourth Number One single from 2018's When Legends Rise album. “Unforgettable” joined “Under Your Scars,” “Bulletproof” and the title track as songs from the LP that have hit the top of the rock radio chart.
