Slipknot and Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor has finished recording his debut solo album. The 46-year-old rocker broke the news of the LP's completion during a Friday (May 22nd) appearance on “Raise Your Horns With Lzzy Hale,” hosted by Halestorm's Lzzy Hale.
Asked what he has been working on during the coronavirus crisis, Taylor said, “I secretly recorded my first solo album. I did with the band I've been using for my solo shows for years, and just a bunch of people that I've been working with forever.”
He added, “We went in and we recorded 25 songs in about two and a half weeks, and we did everything live. And it's dope — really, really cool.” Taylor also said that all the songs on the album are “things that I've written over the years but they didn't really fit with either band.”
Taylor has told us in the past that a solo album would show a different side of his personality: “You don't always have to be bummed to make music, and that was kind of the point of doing a solo album, was to show both kind of versions of it and say, 'Look, this is me too.' I really want to get to the point where I show all sides of that. I mean, if Mick Jagger and Robert Plant can do solo stuff, why can't I? I think there are a lot of people out there that would appreciate it.”
Taylor does not expect his solo effort to come out before 2021. Slipknot recently canceled all of its previously announced summer 2020 tour dates, including the Knotfest Roadshow and Knotfest At Sea, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In other news, Sunday (May 24th) marked the 10th anniversary of the death of founding Slipknot bassist Paul Gray. The 38-year-old musician was found dead in an Iowa hotel room from an accidental overdose of drugs. He was survived by his widow, Brenna Gray, and his daughter October, who was born the following August.
