Shinedown has officially canceled its “Deep Dive Tour” due to the coronavirus pandemic. The trek, which promised deep cuts and B-sides from throughout Shinedown's career, was originally slated to take place in the spring but was postponed to the summer.
The band said in a statement, “It has come to light that its impossible at this point to continue to move the tour forward this year. Trust us, we've tried anything and everything to make these shows happen while always keeping the health and safety of our fans, crew, and local venue staff as our #1 priority . . . we've had to make the difficult decision to cancel the shows.”
The statement added that refunds for all tickets and VIP packages will be available at the point of purchase, and that the band will revisit the tour “at a different time when it's safe for all.”
Two weeks ago, Shinedown frontman Brent Smith had to clarify remarks in which he seemed to suggest that the band would tour this summer as planned no matter what. Smith issued a clarification after some fans misconstrued his position to mean that Shinedown would perform this summer against health officials' advice.
The band does have several other projects in the works for 2020 and Smith told us how he and the rest of his bandmates are communicating while quarantined: “Well, the good thing about being alive in the year 2020 is the fact that there's a lot of technology in regards to communication that we're able to kind of have at our fingertips. So everybody's pretty connected. The band and I, we try to speak at least two to three times a week. That's kind of how we're doing our infrastructure at the moment.”
Among Shinedown's upcoming projects are a new album from Smith and guitarist Zach Myers' spin-off covers project, Smith & Myers, as well as a documentary based around Shinedown's latest LP, 2018's Attention Attention.
