Alter Bridge and Slash frontman Myles Kennedy has used the coronavirus downtime to complete work on the material for his second solo LP. Kennedy told Download TV, “Next solo record is pretty much done, so I'm excited about it. I've been able to get something done during this time, and also hang out with my family, which has been wonderful.”
Asked how his new solo album will be different from his 2018 solo debut, Year Of The Tiger, Kennedy replied, “Well, it's definitely a little more plugged in, as far as the overall approach. Year Of The Tiger leans heavily on the acoustic side of things, and it definitely has a blues vibe . . . (the new one is) much more plugged in — it rocks a little harder, and there's gonna be a lot of guitar silliness on it.”
According to Kennedy, he has “pretty much” demoed the entire next solo LP and has “basically started pre-production” on the effort, which will likely arrive in 2021.
Year Of The Tiger was a very personal record for Kennedy and documented his feelings about the death of his father when the singer was a child. We asked Kennedy a while back if writing such personal material was a form of therapy: “Oh absolutely. In fact, it saves you so much money in therapy costs, you know (laughter). It's like, you can go to a counselor or you can just write a song and purge all your problems.”
Kennedy and Alter Bridge had to cut short their tour schedule earlier this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the band hopes to resume touring once live music venues open up again.
