Bring Me The Horizon will release its new single, “Parasite Eve,” on Thursday (June 25th). The track was originally scheduled to arrive two weeks earlier, but was postponed in light of the recent protests in the wake of the George Floyd murder.
The “Parasite Eve” title appears to be taken from the 1998 PlayStation survival video game of the same name. Singer Oli Sykes explained, “Although the inspiration for the song didn't come from the current pandemic, as we were writing it the similarities started to get weird, I guess . . . it feels like something we need right now.”
Singer Oli Sykes said that the band's upcoming album would be “a bit more aggressive in nature” than 2019's pop-flavored Amo. He said, “This first record is very much a protest record. It’s trying to capture the anger, sadness, frustration, fear, paranoia and everything I think we are all collectively going through right now.”
Sykes' reference to “this first record” may be a hint that the band intends to follow through with its plan to release several shorter EPs throughout the year.
Sykes and bandmate Jordan Fish have been documenting their time recording with a behind-the-scenes series called “BMTHS2.”
