Tennessee's Bonnaroo Festival has now joined the long list of music events that have now canceled their 2020 plans entirely. The festival initially moved from this month to September, but has now reset entirely for June 17th through the 20th next year.
The 2020 show was supposed to feature Tool, Tame Impala, The 1975, Vampire Weekend, Lana Del Rey and more, but it's unknown if any of the acts will carry over to 2021.
Ticketholders for this year’s event can roll their tickets over to next year, but refunds are also available. Organizers said, “Out of an abundance of caution and for the health and safety of all Bonnaroovians, artists, staff, partners and our community, this is a necessary reality.”
Also like a number of other festivals, Bonnaroo announced a virtual event from September 24th through the 27th, and anyone who rolls over their tickets to 2021 can access the online festival for free. According to the website, the event will include “some of our favorite moments from past and present, along with some special surprises.”
Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford told us a while back that Bonnaroo has always been a favorite stop for his band: “We love that festival so much. I wish there was a bit more air conditioning going on, but it's kind of down and dirty and everyone kind of mucks in and there's a very special and a unique atmosphere there. I'd say, yeah, for me Bonnaroo is kind of the Glastonbury of America and, as you know, Glastonbury is kind of our home turf. And Bonnaroo Festival itself holds a lot of really special memories for us.”
Bonnaroo joins a list of canceled 2020 festivals that include South By Southwest, Coachella, Outside Lands, Lollapalooza and many more.
