Dr. Dre's estranged wife Nicole Young has claimed that there is no prenup in their marriage because Dre tore it up to prove how much he loved her. According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Nicole Young is asking a judge to put the issue of a prenup behind them before moving forward with the divorce. She said that the reason she is going to court is because Dre has claimed that they entered into a prenup before they got married in 1996 and now he wants it upheld.
Young added that she did sign something before marrying Dre but feels like she was coerced at the time to signing the document and that it was highly unfair and heavily favored to Dre in the event of a divorce.
Young claimed that Dre pressured her days before their wedding, saying, “I must sign a premarital agreement or he would not marry me. I was extremely, reduction, resistant, and afraid to sign the agreement and felt backed into a corner.” Nicole added that Dre's lawuers drafted up the document and she felt like she was “left with no option but to sign it ‘unwillingly.”
She claimed that just two or three years after the marriage, Dre took the original prenup and ripped it right in front of her ” . . . as a grand gesture of his love for Nicole and his desire to have a marriage free of any financial restrictions governing their respective rights and responsibilities.”
At the time, Young claims that Dr. Dre “felt ashamed he had pressured me into signing a premarital agreement and he tore up multiple copies of the agreement in front of me.” She added, “Since the day he tore up the agreements, we both understood that there was no premarital agreement, and it was null and void.”
Dr. Dre’s wife filed for divorce on June 29th, 2020, citing irreconcilable differences. She is asking for spousal support and an even split of the community property.
Dr. Dre is worth $800 million.
