In response to harsh criticism, Khloé Kardashian defended traveling to a private island to celebrate Kim Kardashian West‘s 40th birthday. Critics of the event argued that it was unsafe and insensitive for Kim, along with 20 to 30 of friends and family members, to leave the country for a birthday party during a global pandemic.
In an appearance on The Ellen DeGenres Show today (October 29th), Khloé made it clear that the event was planned with the pandemic in mind. “We felt so safe,” she explained. “We did it in the safest way I could imagine someone doing it.” Regardless, critics of the celebration still argue that it was tonedeaf as the rest of America faces a climbing second wave of coronavirus infections.
Khloé also told Ellen that she hopes the public backlash doesn’t affect how Kim feels about the party. “I want Kim to focus on just how beautiful it was and what she did for everybody,” she said. “I don't want that to overshadow all the greatness that happened.”
