System of a Down's two latest single releases, “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz,” have debuted this week at Numbers One and Two, respectively, on both the Billboard Hot Hard Rock Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts. This is the band's first new music in 15 years, and proceeds from both tunes benefit humanitarian efforts and the Armenia Fund.
Billboard reports that “Land” is the first Number One on either chart for System of a Down, although both lists started after the band's most hit-making days.
System of a Down has no plans to release a new album due to “creative differences” within the band. The members are Armenian-Americans and only wanted to bring attention to the Nagomo-Karabakh war and help raise funds with the release of the two new songs. So far, they have raised over $600,000 for the cause.
The band also just released a behind-the-scenes look at the music video for “Protect The Land.”
