It's come to light that on November 14th, Bruce Springsteen was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. TMZ first broke the news of the rocker's arrest in Sandy Hook, New Jersey's Gateway National Recreation Area, with National Park Service spokeswoman Brenda Ling telling The Hollywood Reporter, "The Boss" was "charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area." She added Springsteen was "cooperative throughout the process."
According to a source that spoke to APP.com, "Springsteen’s blood-alcohol content was 0.02 — just a quarter of New Jersey’s legal limit — when he was arrested. . . The legal threshold indicating intoxication for driving purposes in New Jersey is .08, which calls into question why Springsteen was even charged with driving while intoxicated."
In the aftermath of the arrest, Springsteen's new Superbowl ad for Jeep has been pulled off the company's YouTube page and Twitter feed — although it's still available on Springsteen's Twitter account.
A Jeep spokesperson said in a statement:
It would be inappropriate for us to comment on the details of a matter we have only read about and we cannot substantiate. But it’s also right that we pause our Big Game commercial until the actual facts can be established. Its message of community and unity is as relevant as ever. As is the message that drinking and driving can never be condoned.
Matthew Riley, a spokesman for the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, said Springsteen is expected to have his first hearing in the case "towards the end of February."
There's been no statement from Springsteen's publicist.
