In an interview with The Daily Beast, “Jennifer,” the woman who Nicki Minaj's husband Kenneth Petty was convicted of raping in 1994, is speaking out. “Jennifer has claimed that Minaj and associates of Minaj and Petty spent months last year harassing her to recant her story. She also claimed that she was offered $20,000 to change her story.
Jennifer says that everything happened after Petty was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to Los Angeles.
She said that four days after Petty's arrest a man named Barry — who Jennifer says had been close to her brother when they were kids, reached out to her and offered to make the fuss around the court case go away. Barry later told Jennifer that Nicki wanted to have a conversation with her.
She said that during her conversation with Nicki, the rapper said that she heard she was willing to help them out adding, “and if there’s anything you need…” The rapper allegedly offered to fly Jennifer to Los Angeles or to fly her publicist out to Atlanta.
Jennifer said that Nicki and her husband wanted to discuss her signing an NDA and Jennifer told the rapper, “Listen. I just need you to know, woman to woman, this really happened.” After that phone call, Jennifer said she never spoke to Nicki again.
Shortly after the call, Jennifer says she a man from New York contacted her cousin in North Carolina, with an offer of half a million dollars in exchange for speaking with Petty’s attorney. Barry had also allegedly urged Jennifer to recant her rape allegation, showing up outside her house with $20,000 to put her signature on a letter in which the allegations would be recanted.
She said, “I came outside and sat in the car, and he pulled out the letter and the $20,000 out of his middle console and put the money on my lap. And I held it in my hands, and I put it on the floor in the passenger seat. And I told him, ‘I’m not taking it. I don’t want it.'”
