DMX is in critical condition at a hospital in White Plains, New York following a drug overdose on Friday night (April 2nd). According to TMZ, the legendary rapper suffered a heart attack triggered by the overdose, which happened at his home around 11:00 pm.
A family member said that paramedics tried to resuscitate the rapper for 30 minutes, during which he was deprived of oxygen — and the lack of oxygen has severely impacted his brain.
CONFLICTING REPORTS ON DMX'S CONDITION
On Saturday (April 3rd) there was conflicting reports about the rapper's condition. One source told the site that X had “some brain activity,” while another said that he was in a “vegetative state.” His attorney later said in a video that X was off of life support and breathing on his own. He later revealed that he had received misinformation.
FAMILY RELEASES OFFICIAL STATEMENT
DMX's family released an official statement on Saturday (April 3rd), saying, “Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.”
The statement continued, “The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”
FAMILY MEMBERS ARE HOLDING ON TO HOPE
Meanwhile, DMX's family visited him yesterday (April 3rd), including his fiancee Desiree Lindstrom and his mom Arnett Simmons. Some of his children also came to visit. The site said that although family members say that the “prognosis” is not looking good for DMX his family is holding out hope that when the inflammation subsides his heart will restore itself.
On Sunday (April 4), in a show of respect, the Ruff Ryders Motorcycle Club — a bike club affiliated with X's former record label, visited the hospital as well.
A prayer vigil is planned for Monday (April 5th) outside of the hospital.
