Morgan Wallen has six nominations at next month's Billboard Music Awards but don't expect to see him at the event at all. The show's producers, dick clark productions, issued a statement which reads, “Morgan Wallen is a finalist this year based on charting. As his recent conduct does not align with our core values, we will not be including him on the show in any capacity (performing, presenting, accepting). It is heartening and encouraging to hear that Morgan is taking steps in his anti-racist journey and starting to do some meaningful work. We plan to evaluate his progress and will consider his participation in future shows.”
The statement refers to Morgan's use of the N-word, which was captured on a neighbor's recording after a drunken night out with friends. The incident cost him radio airplay, a booking agent, a recording suspension from his label and a ban from attending or being nominated for anything at the ACM Awards, which is also produced by dick clark productions.
Nominees for the 2021 BBMAs were announced yesterday (Thursday, April 29th). Morgan is nominated for Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist, Top Country Album for Dangerous: The Double Album, and twice in Top Country Song — “Chasin' You” and “More Than My Hometown.”
The BBMAs will air live from Los Angeles on NBC on Sunday, May 23rd.
