Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears says he will step down as conservator “When the time is right.” His lawyer said that he intends to work with the court for an orderly transition to a new conservator.
His statement comes just weeks after Britney's new legal team filed a petition to remove him and replace him with a CPA.
Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart, who took over as her lawyer in July, issued a statement describing the move as “a major victory for Britney Spears and another step toward justice.”
Through court documents, Jamie Spears says that he essentially saved Britney when she was “in crisis and desperately in need of help.”
He said, “Not only was she suffering mentally and emotionally, but she was also being manipulated by predators and in financial distress. He claims that he rescued her to protect her and has never forced her to do anything, including performing.
In documents filed late Thursday (August 12,) Jamie Spears attacked Britney’s mother, Lynn Spears, and said she has had little, if any, involvement in the conservatorship, let alone Britney's life for the last 13 years. He says her credibility is undermined because Britney herself refused to even see Lynne when she was at a mental health facility in 2019.
After saying that he was pleased that Jamie Spears had conceded, Britney’s attorney called his remarks “disappointing and shameful.” He reassured that he would continue an investigation into Jamie Spears’ conduct over the last 13 years.
When the story broke late Thursday, it was initially reported that he had already stepped down, but that was false.
