Last week when Lorde canceled out of the MTV’s Video Music Awards, the reason given was “change in production elements.”
This week, she released a statement that was more specific. In a newsletter sent to fans on Thursday (9-9,) Lorde said she had an “insanely amazing” performance planned, but due to the pandemic’s safety guidelines, she wouldn’t be able to share her vision the way she intended it.
She explained that the performance would have included several people and with the masking and safety protocols it wouldn’t be “what she dreamed” it would be.
She also said that while planning it, she wasn’t fully aware of the protocols but says they are “very necessary.”
