Following the MTV Video Music Awards, Ed Sheeran was asked what it was like to be in that room. He says it was “filled with resentment and hatred” and called the atmosphere “uncomfortable.”
He said all of the artists are sweet people, but they're surrounded by entourages that want them to win too, so it’s one artist surrounded by 10 people and everyone is kind of giving each other the side eye.
He compared it to award shows in England and says at those, “everyone gets drunk and no one really cares who wins or loses. It's just sort of like a night out.”
He clarified that his comments were not specific to the MTV awards show, but extended to a longer list of American events. “It’s just lots of people wanting other people to fail and I don’t like that.”
He made the comments on The Julia Show that aired on Audacy.
TL;DR:
- Ed Sheeran says the MTV Awards were “filled with resentment and hatred” and called the atmosphere “uncomfortable.”
- He said all of the artists are sweet people but surrounded by large entourages of people wanting others to fail.
