Dave Grohl recorded an entire thrash metal album for Foo Fighters' first movie, Studio 666. Rolling Stone reported Grohl appeared on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Show and gave the backstory as to how the music fits into the movie: “I wind up finding this creepy basement. And I go into the basement, I find this tape by a band (Dream Widow) from 25 years ago that recorded there. And there’s this song that, if recorded and completed, the f***ing demon in the house is unleashed, and then, whatever, all hell breaks loose. It will be the lost album. It’ll be the album they were making before he f***ing killed the entire band.”
Stern pressed Grohl whether fans can expect the Dream Widow music to be released by the time the movie hits theaters next week, to which he responded: “I mean, I work fast, but f***, this deadline is going to kill me. Yes, I’ll get it out for the movie. By February 25th, there will be a Dream Widow record.”
While promoting Studio 666 on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Dave Grophl and Taylor Hawkins spoke about filming the movie: “(Jimmy Kimmel): Who was the, um, worst actor in the group? Let's be honest (laughter) and access each other now. Go ahead (laughs) anybody wanna volunteer? (Dave Grohl): Okay, let's just say that, y'know, there was a script. (Jimmy Kimmel): Yeah. (Dave Grohl): I mean, it's pretty easy for us to be the Foo Fighters. Like, that's easy. But there was a script and people were giving us lines, so we were learning our lines. Taylor refused to learn his lines (laughter). (Jimmy Kimmel): Why Taylor? Why must you be difficult? (Laughter) (Taylor Hawkins): It's not that I'm difficult, it's that I'm lazy and I'm not much for book learning, y'know. . . (Jimmy Kimmel): Uh-huh. (Taylor Hawkins): . . . So, I don't know, I just think 'I have this bunch of pages to read. . .' (laughter).”
