Singer and actress Traci Braxton died Saturday (March 12th) after a private battle with esophageal cancer. She was 50-years-old. Toni Braxton released a statement on her sister's death, saying, “It is with the utmost regret that we inform you of the passing of our sister, Traci. Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly.”
Toni added that Traci died as snow was falling, saying that their “angel is now a snowflake.
She continued, “We ask that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love, celebrating her life. We are family forever.”
A source told People that Traci was “surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing.”
Traci's husband Kevin Surratt, released a statement, saying, “We have come to a time where we must inform the public that after a year of privately undergoing a series of treatment for Esophageal cancer our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory.”
He later posted on Instagram, “It took A lot for me to post this. Traci's son Kevin Jr. wrote via Instagram, “When I heard the news about my mother being sick first thing she said was I’m going to fight and beat this. She fought to the end and today she’s at peace. I love my mother forever and this hurts so much but I’m at peace knowing she’s isn’t in pain anymore. I love you ma I’m going to miss you.”
Tamar Braxton posted Muni Long's song “Time Machine,” on her Instagram, along with the caption, “My Dear Traci, come back.💔”

Traci sang backup for Toni Braxton for years. After the premiere of Braxton Family Values in 2011, Traci decided to breakout on her own and go solo. In 2014, she released her debut album Crash & Burn which produced the hit “Last Call,” followed up by her sophomore album On Earth in 2018.
Traci remained on the Braxton Family Values until the end of the show in 2020. She also appeared on Marriage Boot Camp. She also starred in a few films including The Christmas Lottery, Sinners Wanted and Chaaw, which hasn’t been released yet.
She leaves behind her husband and son, Kevin Sr. and Kevin Jr., her sisters Towanda, Toni, Tamar and Trina, her brother Michael Jr., parents Evelyn and Michael and her grandson Zyair.
