Death Cab for Cutie have released the first track from their upcoming 10th studio album. The song is called “Roman Candles,” and the album, Asphalt Meadows, will be released on September 16th. The new track is available at all DSPs and streaming services. In addition, Death Cab for Cutie have released the “Roman Candles” lyric video.
Of the song, the band said, “‘Roman Candles’ is about the crippling, existential dread that goes hand in hand with living in a nervous city on a dying planet. And that the only way to be in the moment is to let it all go.”
Benjamin Gibbard added, “The lyrics were cobbled from a couple of different songs dealing with my general sense of anxiety; the feeling that the fabric that weaves a functioning society together was crumbling during the pandemic.”
Death Cab for Cutie also unveiled a US headlining tour in support of Asphalt Meadows which launches on September 22th in Madison, WI and wraps up with a two-night hometown finale at Seattle, WA’s Paramount Theatre on October 26th and 27th. The tour will feature support from Low and Yo La Tengo on select dates, and tickets go on sale on Friday, May 20th at 10 a.m. local time.
