Rising star Nate Smith has his very first Number One hit on both the Billboard Country Airplay and Mediabase/Country Aircheck Charts this week with “Whiskey On You.” Nate co-wrote the song, which will be included on his self-titled debut album, due out on April 28th.
He told Billboard, “When I released ‘Whiskey On You’ I wasn’t sure what would happen. I just knew I loved it! First my fans were super encouraging on social media and then country radio welcomed the song with open arms, and for that I couldn’t be more grateful! This is such a proud moment for me and I feel so blessed to get to say I have the No. 1 song on country radio! Meanwhile, my dad is just glad I have a job! A huge thank you to country radio, my fans, my team, and everyone who has lifted this song up!”
Nate and his writing partners wrote and recorded the song while at a friend's lake house. He recorded it while sitting at the kitchen table, and is turns out, that first simple recording turned out to be the best. He tells us: “When I came back to Nashville, we re-recorded all of it. I re-sang it, we replayed the drums, all that kind of stuff, and it felt good, but it didn’t feel the way that it did the day that we wrote it. There was something about that day. The magic was in the demo, so we actually just mixed the demo so the vocal that you’re hearing on the radio right now is actually my voice the day of writing the song.”
Nate released a MOTi remixed version of “Whiskey On You” last week.
He'll join Thomas Rhett on his Home Team Tour 23, which will kick off May 4 in Des Moines, IA, and will hit a total of 40 cities this summer.
