“Forever Man” was the first single from Eric Clapton's Behind The Sun album.
The Behind The Sun album drew attention for the participation of then-Genesis drummer and solo star Phil Collins, who coproduced some of the tracks. “Forever Man” was not one of them, however. It was added after the Collins sessions, when the label felt the album needed more potential singles.
Behind The Sun peaked at Number 34 on the Billboard 200 and at Number Eight in the U.K.
As part of the album's promotion, Clapton played “Forever Man” on Late Night With David Letterman on May 7th, 1985.
While on the Behind The Sun tour, Clapton left his wife Pattie (George Harrison's ex) and took up with photographer and actress Lori Del Santo, who subsequently gave birth to Clapton's son Conor. Clapton and Patti officially divorced in 1988.
