"You're My Best Friend" was bassist John Deacon's second composition to appear on a Queen album. "Misfire" on 1974's Sheer Heart Attack was the first.
In addition to bass, Deacon played the song's electric piano part.
Prior to recording the A Night At The Opera album, Queen guitarist Brian May was invited to join the band Sparks but declined.
The sessions for A Night At The Opera coincided with much legal turmoil for Queen, as it freed itself from a confining management deal.
The album itself was recorded in six different studios around England, often with the musicians working in separate studios. Producer Roy Thomas Baker pieced the individual recordings together into the album.
A Night At The Opera hit Number Four on the Billboard 200 chart and was Queen's second consecutive gold album.
Thanks to that success, May noted that A Night At The Opera was the first album for which the members of Queen made any money.
