A survey of 2,000 Americans found that 61% of adults would head for a “dupe” destination to save some money. Dupe destinations could be the U.S. Virgin Islands instead of the Bahamas, or Belfast, Ireland instead of London. These locations can offer a similar experience and charm at a lower price point. 51% would pick a dupe destination to avoid large crowds, and 41% are interested in how a dupe destination compares to a more popular one. “It can be easy to think about summer travel and immediately start planning a trip abroad, or to an exotic destination — but it’s good to remember that there are equally wonderful places to travel that are closer to home,” Alen Baibekov of Economybookings.com said.
