OpenAI and Google have begun using YouTube videos to train AI models. Researchers from the University of Massachusetts set out to learn more about what footage is being used. The team analyzed random YouTube videos and found that more videos made for personal use or made by those under 13 could be in the data set than anticipated. While your experience of YouTube is curated by algorithms, more obscure content might be used to train Artificial Intelligence.
Obscure videos that never pick up steam…like family celebrations, selfies, homework assignments, kids dancing, and video game clips…make up the vast majority of content on the platform. As far as AI is concerned, these personal videos might be just as influential as Mr. Beast’s uploads. Unfortunately, OpenAI has not specified exactly which content is used. (Study Finds)
