German researchers have discovered a link between dancing and mental health. A study published in Personality and Individual Differences found dancers, both professional and recreational, were more likely to be less neurotic. Dancers also tend to be more agreeable and outgoing. “Both dancers and singers show a high degree of extraversion in their personality—which may be due to the fact that their means of expression when dancing and singing is their body,” lead author Julia F. Christenen said. The team used data from over 6,000 people from Sweden and Germany to draw these conclusions. (Study Finds)
