A primary election in the 8th House District in Eugene, Oregon, was settled with a coin toss. The top two candidates, Lisa Fragala and Doyle Canning, both Democrats, received seven votes each. State Deputy Elections Director Luke Belant did the honors of flipping the coin. It came up tails, favoring Canning. However, due to the state’s “sore loser” law, Canning was banned from accepting the nomination. Fragala won by default, and will be the only candidate on the ballot this November, unless Republicans choose a candidate. (UPI)
