Almost half of all cancer deaths are linked to six habits, an American Cancer Society study found. 44% of cancer deaths correlate with smoking cigarettes, being overweight, drinking alcohol, inactivity, poor diet, and excessive sun exposure. Cigarettes came out on top as the biggest contributor. “The number of lung cancer deaths attributable to cigarette smoking in the United States is alarming,” Dr. Farhad Islami said. Dr. Islami also stressed the importance of proper nutrition and exercise. Excess weight could alter hormone regulation and increase inflammation, which could result in an increased cancer risk.
