Florida man Jose Farinango is being charged with fraudulently misrepresenting his jewelry as Native American-made. Farinango allegedly presented his work to art shows across the country, but does not actually appear to be Native American. “Safeguarding Native American culture, traditions, and the consumers who purchase authentic Native American art are a critical part of these investigations,” Edward Grace of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement said. If convicted, Farinango faces up to 25 years in prison. (Native News Online)
