A study from the University of Bristol found that dogs’ decisions may be influenced by human stress. 18 dog owners and their pets, which included spaniels, Labrador Retrievers, poodles, and mixed dogs, participated. When owners were stressed by math problems, their dogs tended to anticipate not receiving food or a treat in their bowl. When participants were relaxed and listening to music, dogs were more positive about the possibility of food in their bowl. “Understanding how human stress affects dogs’ wellbeing is an important consideration for dogs in kennels and when training companion dogs,” Dr. Nicola Rooney said. “Working dog handlers often describe stress traveling down the lead, but we’ve also shown it can also travel through the air.” (Study Finds)
