A study from Memorial University of Newfoundland found that older adults can recognize musical themes just as well as younger participants. This could mean that music offers the key to keeping cognitive abilities sharp as we age. Familiarity with different types of music also seems to help with recognition and memory. Participants in the study ranged from ages 20 and 80 and were asked to listen to familiar music, unfamiliar music, and completely atonal sounds. (Study Finds)
