All of this content sits in a data center and uses energy, meaning it could impact the environment. “Every piece of data whether it be an image, whether it be an Instagram post, whatever it is, there’s a carbon footprint attached to it,” Ian Hodgkinson of Loughborough University said. “The reality is, these data centers are incredibly hot, incredibly noisy, they consume a large amount of energy.” (The Guardian)
